Published in 1970, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee by Dee Brown is a groundbreaking history of the American West from the Native American perspective, a viewpoint which could only meet a receptive audience after the societal upheaval of the Sixties. It engendered a considerable rethinking of many long-held assumptions about the period.
