First edition, first printing of One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez in near pristine condition.

This is the second state jacket with a period instead of an exclamation point at the end of the first paragraph on the front dust jacket flap.

Has all markers of a true first printing: Harper & Row, 1970. Octavo, 422pp. Green cloth, title stamped in gilt. Stated “first edition” on copyright page with no number line on last page. Correct $7.95 price printed on inside dust jacket flap.

Original dust jacket is unclipped and has no chips, tears, or creases. Interior is clean with no markings, inscriptions, or paste-ins. Boards are clean and bright with some minor shelf wear on rear bottom plate, near corner (see photo). Binding is strong and square. Overall nearly flawless.

Since it was first published in May 1967 in Buenos Aires by Editorial Sudamericana, the book has been translated into 46 languages and sold more than 50 million copies. The novel, considered García Márquez's magnum opus, remains widely acclaimed and is recognized as one of the most significant works both in world literature. In 2024, the book was adapted into a television series released on Netflix and executive produced by García Márquez's sons.
