Has all indicators of a first printing: First editions from Random House at the time of printing state "First Edition" along with a number line having '2' as its lowest number and no additional printings listed.

New York: Random House, 1971. Publisher's blind-stamped grey paper boards over black cloth spine, lettered in silver; pp. (x), 206.

Includes original dust jacket in very good condition. Not price clipped. Light edge wear on spine and minor creases on inside of front flap. Some sunning visible on top of boards. Small owner's inscription on front end paper. Interior is otherwise clean with no other markings, plates, or inscriptions. Binding is strong and book is in overall near fine condition.

In November 1971, Rolling Stone published the text as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream, a two-part article with the original illustrations by Ralph Steadman. Later that same year, Random House quickly published the hardcover edition with additional Steadman illustrations.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is the inspiration for the Johnny Depp film of the same name and is the most acclaimed novel by Hunter S. Thomson.
