The Silmarillion, published in America by Allen & Unwin in 1977, is a collection of myths and legends from Middle Earth, the setting of Lord of the Ring. It covers the history of the world of Arda from the birth of Eä to the end of the Third Age. The bulk of the book consists of the Quenta Silmarillion, which is mainly concerned with the deeds of the Noldor and the tales of the First Age of Middle-earth.
